KWF (Queen Wilhelmina Fund), known as KWF Kankerbestrijding, is a Dutch organisation dedicated to fighting cancer. KWF focuses on reducing the impact of cancer in various ways and works to improve survival rates and quality of life for cancer patients. KWF’s main activities are:
- Funding cancer research: KWF invests heavily in scientific research on cancer. This research focuses on improving treatments, finding new therapies and increasing knowledge about prevention, diagnosis and care.
- Education and prevention: KWF provides education on ways to prevent cancer, such as healthy living, quitting smoking, healthy diet, exercise and sun protection. They also promote early detection of cancer through population screening, for example.
- Supporting cancer patients and their loved ones: KWF offers help to people facing cancer. This can range from practical information to emotional support for patients and their families. They also work to improve care and quality of life for people who have or have had cancer.
- Promoting cancer care: KWF works to improve care for cancer patients, for example by advocating for new treatment methods in hospitals, or by helping to implement innovative care programmes.
- Fundraising: To achieve their goals, KWF organises campaigns and actions to raise money for research and support. Think of events such as the annual collection week or actions such as ‘SamenLoop voor Hoop.’
- Lobbying and collaboration: KWF works with governments, healthcare institutions and other organisations to put cancer control on society’s agenda and bring about improvements in cancer care and prevention.
KWF’s ultimate goal is to reduce cancer, cure more people and ensure that everyone with cancer has the best possible quality of life.
